"The Gnomon", a story included on this website, describes the fictional outcome of a physics experiment which re-creates The Big Bang.
There are two large-scale efforts actually doing this experiment. One project is being carried out by The Brookhaven National Laboratory, a physics lab in Long Island, New York, USA. The other is by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research near Geneva, Switzerland.
